A Call to Listen to God

CLEANSING FIRE

Today is an invitation to say, “Yes, purify me Lord. Let your consuming fire renew and cleanse me.” Today is an invitation to listen and to obey.

Hebrews 12:22-29 NIV
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, [23] to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, [24] to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

[25] See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? [26] At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” [27] The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

[28] Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, [29] for our “God is a consuming fire.”

As we come to God we have to know that He is our living God. He has made us alive in Him. We will witness and experience His presence.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1:8

We continually declare and profess our faith in Christ Jesus, the Mediator, the perfecter, the finisher of our faith. We completely belong to the New Covenant, to the sprinkled blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus.

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Hebrews 1:3

From generation to generation of believers, God wants to share His plans to His people  To share His heart and to transform us into the image of His Son. How then are we able to hear from God. The primary way is through His Word. His Word is able to transform us and to give us direction in our lives. God’s Word is a consuming fire that removes things that are not pleasing to Him purifying us.

Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

Ephesians 1:4

Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert.

Hebrews 3:8

Today is an invitation to say, “Yes, purify me Lord. Let Your consuming fire renew and cleanse me.” Today is an invitation to listen and to obey.

So let us come to God with thankfulness by worshipping Him with love, joy, reverence and awe. Praise be to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

These have come so that the proven genuineness of our faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:7-9

PRAYER

Dear heavenly Father, we thank You that we are able to come into Your presence because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. We are thankful that even as we go through the consuming fire as You desire us to be holy as You are holy, that day by day we are made into Your image.  .  Let our hearts, minds, souls and spirits be one with  You. We know that with You Jesus, we are able to endure, stay pure and persevere together until the end. Teach us to lean on and listen to You each day.  In Jesus Name. Amen.

  • Everyday, we have to ask God for our assignment, we must not assume we understand His plan but rather surrender to His will daily.

  • God’s will for all of us His children is that we should rejoice, pray always and also give thanks to Him always, even during the difficulties of life and in the midst of trails that come into our every day lives, it says that we should not be shaken by the trials because we are with God. God’s word is a consuming fire that removes things that are not pleasing to Him purifying us.
