The Blazing Furnace

REFRESHING FIRE

With the coming of the fiercest storms in life, allow our Heavenly Father to refresh us.

Daniel 3:16-18 NKJV
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. [17] If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. [18] But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden statue ninety feet high. Then commanded all men to fall down in worship at the sound of a musical instrument. Anyone who refused will be thrown in the blazing fire. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego faced a crisis when they refused to bow before the man-made golden statue. The three men confidently trusted that the God whom they serve is able to rescue them from the burning fiery furnace. King Nebuchadnezzar was even astounded when he saw the three men plus another man, looking like the “Son of God” walking around the blazing furnace, seven times hotter, unharmed. He exclaimed that there is no other God who can deliver like this.

We face many crises in life and at times it can be overwhelming. A sickness in the family can lead to financial burden and mental instability. It is during these trying times that our faith is tested. God allows crises in our lives to strengthen our resolve to trust Him. That He walks with us and is able to deliver us from  crises. This fiery furnace experience refreshes our capacity to lean into the truth that God is almighty and trustworthy, able to conquer any and every crisis we face daily.

What crisis do you face today? Maybe it’s a family crisis, a financial crisis, a school crisis, a health or a personal crisis. Do you allow doubt to set in and replace your confident hope in God? With the coming of the fiercest storms in life, allow our Heavenly Father to refresh us. For He is trustworthy and He promised that He will never abandon us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6,8).

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I praise You for in the midst of crises, for I know I can run to you. Let all that I am wait quietly before You, my God, for my hope is in You. Lord, You alone are my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor comes from God alone. You are my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. Let all people trust in him at all times. And so I will pour out my heart to You, for You Lord are my refuge (Psalm 62:5-8). Let Your unfailing love surround those who trust in You. In Jesus Name. Amen.
